BOPP Film: Types, Features & Uses
Bi-oriented polypropylene film (BOPP) is a multilayer co-extruded film made from polypropylene pellets that are co-extruded to form a sheet and then stretched in both longitudinal and transverse directions. From the late 70's to the present, BOPP categories are also constantly enriched for the plastic world to add color. BOPP product classification first according to the different uses of light film, matte film, pearlescent film, aluminized film, laser film and so on.
Light Film
BOPP ordinary film, also known as light film, is the largest amount of BOPP products. Light film itself is waterproof plastic film, through the overlay light film, can make the original non-waterproof label material surface becomes waterproof; light film so that the surface of the label sticker becomes more bright, appear more upscale, attract attention; light film can protect the printed ink / content, so that the label surface scratch-resistant, more durable. Therefore, the light film is widely used in all kinds of printing, food, goods packaging use.

Matte Film
Mainly through the absorption and scattering of light to achieve the effect of matte, generally can enhance the appearance of the printing grade, but the price is relatively high, and fewer domestic manufacturers, so often in the boxed food or high-end packaging. Matting film often does not have a heat sealing layer, so it is often used with other films (such as CPP, BOPET) and other composite use.
Features:

Pearlescent Film
Mostly 3-layer co-extruded stretch film, the surface will generally have a heat sealing layer, common such as chopstick bags, often the pearlescent film has its own heat sealing layer heat sealing, so there will be a section of heat sealing cross-section exists. The density of PEPA is mostly controlled below 0.7, which is good for cost saving; moreover, the common PEPA film presents white, opaque pearlescent effect, which has certain light-blocking ability, and protects the products that need to avoid light. Of course, pearlescent film is also often used with other film composite for food and daily necessities, such as ice cream, chocolate packaging and beverage bottle labels.

Aluminized Film
It is a composite flexible packaging material formed by plating a very thin layer of metallic aluminum on the surface of plastic film using a special process, of which the most commonly used processing method is vacuum aluminizing method, so that the surface of the plastic film has a metallic luster. Because it has the characteristics of both plastic film and metal, it is a kind of cheap and beautiful, excellent performance, practical packaging materials, mainly used for cookies and other dry, puffed food packaging, as well as some pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging.
Features:
1. The surface of the film has a very thin layer of metallic aluminum;
2. The surface has a metallic luster;
3. It is a kind of cheap and beautiful, excellent performance and practical composite flexible packaging material.
Uses:
1. Dry and puffed food packaging such as cookies;

Laser Film
The use of computer dot-matrix lithography, 3D true-color holography, multiple and dynamic imaging and other technologies via the hologram with rainbow dynamics, three-dimensional effect of the hologram transferred to the BOPP film, ink erosion resistance, high water vapor barrier capacity, better anti-static. Laser film in the domestic production is relatively small, the production technology has certain requirements, generally used for high-end commodity anti-counterfeiting, decorative packaging, such as cigarettes, medicines, food and other packaging boxes.
Features:

Advantage:
BOPP film is colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and has the advantages of high tensile strength, impact strength, rigidity, strong toughness and good transparency, etc. BOPP film needs to be corona-treated before gluing or printing. After corona treatment, BOPP film has good printing adaptability, can be color printing and get exquisite appearance, and therefore commonly used as the surface layer of composite film materials.
Inadequate:
BOPP film also has shortcomings, such as easy to accumulate static electricity, heat sealing performance is poor.
In addition, BOPP film initiation of tear strength after stretching has increased, but the secondary tear strength is very low, therefore, BOPP film can not be left on both sides of the face of any cut, otherwise BOPP film in the printing, laminating, easy to tear.
